2023 Law Student Scholarship Recipients



Valentyna Krachuck Dickinson
University of Texas School of Law
Valentyna Kravchuk Dickinson is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law at Austin. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, earning a BBA in Finance in May 2020. With a keen interest in tax law, she has actively participated in various activities and classes to hone her skills in this specialized field. As a team leader in the Tax Law Moot Court, she conducted extensive research and analysis on complex tax issues. Through prior work experiences, including two internships at the Comptroller's office and her current position at a Texas tax Law firm, she has gained valuable insights into the practical application of tax law. She is excited to use her dedication, passion, and commitment to make meaningful impacts for her future clients.
 

Marcus Lys
South Texas College of Law
Marcus Lys graduated from Texas A&M University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. He then attended South Texas College of Law Houston where he graduated magna cum laude in May, 2023. During his time at South Texas, he worked to serve the community in the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic. Marcus will be furthering his education this fall at the Georgetown Law Center’s LL.M. program. Marcus would like to thank Professors Bruce McGovern and Jeff Gold for their support.
 

Amy Nguyen
SMU Dedman School of Law
Amy Nguyen graduated from SMU Dedman School of Law in May 2023. She graduated summa cum laude from UT Dallas with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. During law school, she was an advocate on a mock trial team. She served as a Chief of the SMU Low-Income Taxpayers Clinic and received the Clinical Legal Education Association Outstanding Clinic Student Award. Amy was also President of the SMU Tax Law Society, External Vice President of the SMU Asian Pacific American Law Student Association (APALSA), and Associate Managing Editor on the Executive Board of the SMU Science and Technology Law Review. She has two publications in the SMU Science and Technology Law Review, including a comment on the taxation of NFTs and crypto asset tax evasion. In the fall, Amy will pursue her LLM in Taxation at NYU School of Law. She would like to thank her family, friends, and mentors who supported her passions.
 

Anna Taylor
The University of Texas Law School
Anna is a graduate of The University of Texas School of Law. She has been involved in various law-related committees and organizations, including the AIEN Carbon Capture and Storage Taskforce Committee and the Texas Journal of Oil, Gas, and Energy Law. Anna also has a B.A. in Humanities Honors and Government with a minor in Sociology from The University of Texas at Austin. Her experience includes working as a Summer Associate at Mayer Brown LLP, a Research Assistant for Professor Owen Anderson, and owning and managing Anna Moriah Productions, a music production company. Additionally, Anna is also interested in the music and fashion industries, motorcycle riding and racing, learning Italian, and weightlifting. She plans to begin her career as a Tax Associate in Mayer Brown’s Houston office in Fall 2023.
